B-1-4- Land transport for you goods

Transport choices can be complex. Solutions include land, maritime, air, and rail transport, or a combination thereof in multimodal transport.

Land transportation is often in concert with a second type of routing, post-transport, that can take the form of maritime, air, or, in rare cases, piggyback transport.

One transport solution for intra-Community exchanges that do not involve crossing a sea, is land transportation. This type of transport can be carried out by direct transport through a freight forwarder, who is also responsible for customs clearance if necessary.

1-4-1- Constraints related to land transport

Like all transport, land transport faces specific constraints such as, first and foremost, the risk of a traffic accident. There are also risks related to handling or theft.

There many ways to avoid or limit risks, with transport insurance being the most obvious. Expert packaging is another. We do not dismiss the use of a service provider.

1-4-2- Different modes of transportation

There are many modes of land transport including rigid and sheeted road transport and road trains. Land transport can work in concert with container transport, which involves loading a roll-off container platform adapted for this purpose.

1-4-3- The prices of land transport

Land transportation is somewhat unique in the sense that prices are negotiable and not fixed. The transport prices depend heavily on travel time and the dimensions of the transport vehicle.

1-4-4- Land transport responsibilities

A carrier using land transport is responsible for the services provided, even if employing a sub-contractor (all or a part of the transport).
