C-5-5- The customs invoice

The customs invoice is a tool for international payments, like the consular invoice, the pro forma invoice, or the commercial invoice.

5-5-1- Customs invoice: definition

The customs invoice is a special commercial invoice. It is a document required by Canada and Commonwealth members amongst others. This document can be obtained from specialized printing services.

5-5-2- Canadian Customs invoice: content

Indeed:

It is with this invoice that Canadian customs establishes the import license or authorization from other ministries. It indicates the "value of duty," the classification of goods, the tariff classification and, depending on the country of origin, the origin certificate.

The information most often missing on the customs invoice include: the date of direct shipment to Canada, the goods' country of origin, the currency and the transport, insurance and packaging costs.

In cases of errors associated with the origin of goods, the customs has the right to seize the goods. The importer is then liable for the given information.

The customs invoice is composed of 25 fields.
